The Year 10 Academic Care program at St Benedict’s is centred on facilitating a smooth transition into Senior Schooling. Significant emphasis is placed on encouraging the student body to become proactive and increasingly independent learners. These traits are the corner stones of the St Benedict’s Catholic College Leadership Diploma that all students are encouraged to complete.

The Academic Care conversations and Pastoral Activities revolve around the following areas:

  • The importance of Year 10
  • Realistic and flexible goal setting
  • Developing healthy academic habits
  • Time management
  • Balancing school, family, friends and life
  • Examination preparartion
  • Stress management

The Year 10 cohort is regularly asked to evaluate their progress and reflect on their learning and the strategies they are employing. Increasing ownership of student learning is a key element of the Year 10 Pastoral Program.

The Year group is also actively encouraged to display an awareness of others both within the immediate St Benedict’s community and the wider community. This initiative is closely aligned with the Reflection Days the grade have experienced and the opportunity to listen to and be inspired by keynote speakers.

Other Year 10 activities/initiatives included:

  • Careers Counselling
  • The Outdoor Education Program
  • The Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Social Justice Initiatives
  • Involvement with the Mater Dei Special school
