Year 8 at St. Benedict’s is an exciting time of new challenges. Students, from day one, are engaged in a more rigorous programme of studies than ever seen before, and they experience entirely new subject areas, such as Geography and Languages, for the first time.

Year 8 is organised into Academic Care groups, each under the care of 2 teachers, where they meet each morning before the commencement of classes. Here, the students can have meaningful discussions with their Academic Care teachers, about specific learning issues and pastoral concerns as well.

Other features features of the Year 8 experience at St. Benedict’s are:

  • A series of pastoral initiatives and focuses, during fortnightly year meetings, which deal with a range of well-being issues such as developing resilience, body image, internet and social networking safety.
  • A leadership programme, whereby potential student leaders are introduced, to the formal leadership programme of the college. This occurs in Term 3.
  • Also in Term 3, Year 8 select their electives for Stage 5

Year 8 also experiences an annual Reflection Day, and attends a number of out of school trips and excursions, designed to enhance classroom learning and physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing.
